Where do the elements come from? Most of the elements in the Universe are produced by stars — through their lifetimes and, for the heaviest elements, in the stellar explosions that mark their deaths. In this talk, Dr James Herbert Gillanders will give an overview of stellar explosions, how astronomers use a range of techniques to find and observe them, and how we measure which elements they produce — from gold and platinum to uranium. About the speaker Dr James Gillanders is a postdoctoral researcher in the Astrophysics department at the University of Oxford.
