The Sun and Us

Space Weather Exhibition
Digital Exhibition

Discover the powerful connection between the Sun and life on Earth in this exciting exhibition created by Frederick University and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA). Now hosted at the Cyprus Planetarium, The Sun and Us comes to life through interactive digital exhibits, immersive audiovisual installations, and a screening of the award-winning documentary “Northern Lights – A Magic Experience.”

From solar flares and coronal mass ejections to the solar wind, explore how these solar phenomena affect everything from satellite communication and aviation to power systems and even human biology.

The exhibition is curated by the Cyprus Ionosphere & Space Weather Research Group (CyIRG), led by Professor Haris Haralambous, and is inspired by the group’s cutting-edge research. Learn more about their work at http://cyirg.frederick.ac.cy/

Campo Del Cielo, Meteorite

Step into the wonder and witness our Meteorite at the planetarium’s exhibition! “Campo del Cielo” is described as a polycrystalline coarse octahedrite. At 3mm the Widmanstatten bands are thicker than Canyon Diablo or Odessa, still thin enough to have the same coarse octahedrite classification. The mass was composed of large austenite crystals from 5 to 50 cm in size. On break-up the fragments were cold worked like those at Sikhote-Alin and Gibeon. It has been hypothesized that the original body was tabular in shape and broke up on entry into the atmosphere.

Origin: NORTHERN ARGENTINA /First Find in 1576 AD Location: Campo del Cielo, Gran Chaco Gualamba, Argentina
