The Cyprus Planetarium

The Cyprus Planetarium, has been erected in Tamassos next to the Metropolis, an area which has archaeological treasures from the Late Bronze Age and mainly from the 7th century BC. It is of special importance in the world of astronomy due to the geographical location of Cyprus and it’s proximity to the Sahara desert. It is a place where Culture, Theology and Sciences coexist in harmony.
The Biggest Planetarium in the Eastern Mediterranean

Our vision is to create a meeting point for the scientific community and the lovers of space, and a point for entertainment combined with education. The Cyprus Planetarium, with the technology it has, and in collaboration with universities and organizations in Cyprus and abroad, will be a valuable tool for the cultural development of space study in Cyprus. Also to provide top quality knowledge and entertainment through new cuttingedge technologies with simple and easy to understand information, accessible to everyone.

The planetarium aims to organize educational programs for children and adults in various fields of science such as Astronomy, Robotics, STEM education and the environment. At the same time, cultural initiatives will be developed for the people, peace and the survival of our planet.
THE DOME

In the largest dome in the Eastern Mediterranean, visitors can enjoy spectacular films as well as live images from the planetarium’s telescope and helioscope.

The dome also connects to other telescopes from every corner of the earth to observe and transmit phenomena that are not visible from our side of the planet.

The 182 seat planetarium amphitheater, has a 18.25 meters dome, and is one of the largest in Europe. The high-definition (9K) projection system, in addition to image transmission, can be used for entertainment and educational presentations such as lectures, cultural events and musical performances.
OBSERVATORY

The modern robotic telescope of the planetarium, and the helioscope, offers image transmission capabilities for the observation of the astrophysical phenomena, even the spectacular solar flares.

The telescope is 14” / 356mm in diameter. It has a robotic base (with the possibility of remote control online) and a high-definition camera (Sensor: SONY IMX455CMOS Resolution: 62 Mega Pixel 9576X6388) for the photography of the planets and space. Images from the observatory are stored and accessible from the planetarium database on an online platform.
EDUCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT VR HALL

The combination of education with entertainment,is what makes the Cyprus Planetarium unique. 360° virtual reality systems have been installed at the Planetarium providing an audio-visual simulation of a modified, augmented or substitute environment for the user.

Also a VR game zone with simulator games that immerse the player in environments that will give a unique experience.
BUILDING FACILITIES

Our building complex is divided into two buildings.

The main building hosts the Planetarium, Exhibition area, the VR Hall, a Gift shop, a Cafeteria and the Conference Hall.

The 2nd building hosts the Observatory, the Sky Amphitheatre and Lunar Restaurant. They are connected by a small square where an exact replica of a satellite is permanently displayed.
CONFERENCE HALL

The Conference Hall, is located on the 1st floor of the Main building. Provides a technical infrastructure for holding conferences and also has the possibility of connecting to the observatory.

Sky Amphitheater

Located within the Cyprus Planetarium complex, our outdoor amphitheatre can accommodate up to 220 attendees and is designed to host various events and presentations. From corporate gatherings to cultural performances, scientific lectures, and astronomical presentations, this fully equipped venue ensures a memorable experience for all. Complete with sound and lighting systems, as well as a large video wall (5m x 3m LED, 1000 lumens brightness), it guarantees a captivating atmosphere for your event.
